Responsibilities of an Operating Room Nurse
Operating Room Nurses are involved in three key phases of surgical care: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative.
Preoperative Duties
• Assess patient health and readiness for surgery.
• Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
• Set up the operating room to meet the specific needs of each procedure.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients before surgery.
Intraoperative Duties
• Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies.
• Monitor patient vital signs and anesthesia levels.
• Maintain a sterile environment using strict aseptic techniques.
• Document surgical procedures, medications, and any complications.
Postoperative Duties
• Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia.
• Assess for signs of complications or infection.
• Provide post-surgical care instructions to patients and families.
• Update medical records with detailed surgical notes.
Qualifications of an Operating Room Nurse
To work in Vejthani’s surgical department, nurses typically have the following credentials :
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in Thailand.
• Specialized training in perioperative nursing and infection control.
• Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Experience in surgical nursing, instrument handling, and emergency response.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
